What to Avoid After
Wrapping Your Vehicle

A vehicle wrap is a fantastic way to transform the look of your car or van while protecting its original paintwork. However, to ensure your wrap lasts and looks great for as long as possible, there are a few important things to avoid. At WrapMates, we want you to get the most out of your investment, so here’s what you should steer clear of after wrapping your vehicle.

1. Avoid Immediate Washing

As tempting as it might be to clean your freshly wrapped vehicle, you’ll need to wait at least two weeks before washing it. This waiting period allows the adhesive to fully bond with the surface, preventing potential damage or lifting of the wrap.

2. Avoid Direct Sunlight for Extended Periods

While wraps are designed to be durable, excessive exposure to direct sunlight can fade the colours and damage the vinyl over time. Whenever possible, park your vehicle in a garage or shaded area to protect the wrap from UV damage and prolong its lifespan.

3. No Harsh Chemicals or Abrasive Cleaners

When cleaning your wrapped vehicle, steer clear of harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaning products. These can deteriorate the vinyl and cause it to peel or discolour. Always use gentle, wrap-safe cleaners or mild car shampoos.

4. Avoid Pressure Washing at High Pressure

While pressure washing can be used carefully, it’s important to avoid high-pressure settings or holding the nozzle too close to the wrap. The force of the water can lift the edges of the wrap, leading to damage over time. Keep the pressure low and maintain at least a one-metre distance.

5. Steer Clear of Automatic Car Washes

Automatic car washes, especially those with rotating brushes, are a big no for wrapped vehicles. The friction from the brushes can pull at the edges of the wrap, causing it to peel or tear. Instead, opt for hand washing or a touchless car wash.

6. Avoid Waxing and Polishing on Matte or Satin Finishes

For those with matte or satin finishes, avoid using traditional waxes or polishes that add shine. These products are designed to enhance gloss, which can ruin the intended finish of your wrap. Always check that any product you use is safe for vehicle wraps.

7. Don’t Use Sharp Objects Near the Wrap

It may sound obvious, but be careful when using sharp objects near your vehicle. Things like keys, tools, or even belts can scratch the wrap or lift its edges if not handled carefully.

8. Avoid Parking Under Trees or Other Hazardous Areas

Parking under trees can lead to sap, bird droppings, and other contaminants that can damage your wrap. These substances can be difficult to remove if left on for too long, so it’s best to avoid such areas altogether.

9. Don’t Ignore Small Damages

If you notice any small tears or scratches on your wrap, don’t ignore them. Addressing minor issues early can prevent further damage and extend the life of your wrap. Contact us at WrapMates, and we’ll help repair any problems before they get worse.
